There was a momentary pause in the chopping when she heard Steve enter the room--in fact the pause was less a case of her regarding his arrival and more a lag and notice of being caught. She frowned at the leeks, her head ducking just a bit before she straightened again, trying to put forward the air that nothing was wrong, the movement of her knife against the cutting board picking up at a slow speed.
"That man is a fool," she answered, her own accent still thick despite how hard she tried to speak through it. The force of her cutting increased again, even if the speed did not.
And perhaps the reaction wouldn't be so strong if there wasn't a quite snide voice in the back of her head agreeing with the bastard. After all, she had to be stupid to still feel panic in the face of some of the technology even after several years, even knowing that all of it had a logical explanation.
And yet, she still panicked regardless, even while she grasped for the logical explanation in the middle of reeling.
